This may seem like a normal amount of traffic for anyone who lives in a moderately sized city but in Geneva, traffic is never this congested. And never had I seen so many people out at once and walking on the street.

On November 19th last year, the public transport bus drivers decided to have a strike – the first one since 1982 – because of planned budget cuts, and supposed job and fare reductions. Geneva’s population is growing fast and more bus routes will be added in the coming years, so why the reduction in staff? I can sympathize.

Although I awoke to an ominous fog that day, the rest of the day was sunny and beautiful. I was forced to walk to work and back (a practice I should adopt for good) and actually felt great. Did the strike have the intended effect on Genevans? Probably not.
