Building Community with the Neighborhood Exchange Box

This past week I’ve made it a point to either walk to work or walk home from work. In doing this, F and I have discovered so many cool parks, side streets, stores, etc. Walking invites you to look more closely at the world around you, as opposed to be when you take a bus or a tram and only frequent bustling, concrete-laden streets.

Saint-Jean, our neighborhood, is small and I think because of that there is a stronger sense of community than, say, in Pâquis. As part of a community building initiative someone has placed this ‘neighbor exchange box’ right off of the community center and library complex. What a neat idea! Inside the box you’ll find books, CDs, little trinkets – the point is to take something and leave something.

Cool box; even cooler mural in the background.
