Geneva’s Opera, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, will be closed for renovations until further notice and so what did the city do? It took it upon itself to build a temporary opera – the kind of luxury you only enjoy in Switzerland.

The new Opera à Nations, located opposite from UNHCR near the Nations stop, will be there for the next two years and just two Sundays ago was open to the general public for viewing. We got to go on stage and through the sound studio! Everything was set up for Alcina, the opening play: life-size bear, whimsical suitcases and grassy patches all throughout.

The cinema-like seating ensures that every seat in the house is a good one. I hope we get to see an opera play there someday soon!
